ON CHESIL BEACH
Adapted by Ian McEwan from his bestselling novel, this drama centres on a young couple of drastically different backgrounds in the summer of 1962. Edward (Billy Howle) and Florence (Saoirse Ronan), newly-married and very much in love, arrive at a grand old inn on the Dorset coast for their honeymoon; they’ll leave with a very different understanding of who they are and what they actually want out of life.
While downstairs the hotel is full of guests, they are achingly alone with each other and the momentous thing that is supposed to happen. As pressure mounts in the hotel room the Director, Dominic Cooke, smoothly tells their backstories in a series of flashbacks, each stimulated by something the couple says or feels. Full details.
