God’s Own Country

A run-down Yorkshire farm is the setting for this debut feature from director Francis Lee. Johnny Saxby (O’Connor), who lives with his crippled father (Hart) and grandmother (Jones), eases his daily frustrations with binge drinking and casual sex. Forced to hire a migrant worker (Secareanu), who he initially despises, Johnny is forced by their burgeoning relationship and his worsening family circumstances to question what he wants out of life. “This is one of the most assured, fully-formed British debuts of recent years” (Sight and Sound).
