Rungano Nyoni returns to the director’s chair seven years after her cult debut I Am Not a Witch, with a striking, surreal black comedy about abuse, shame and family reckonings. Set in Zambia, On Becoming a Guinea Fowl tells the story of Shula (Susan Chardy) who discovers the body of her uncle Fred lying on the road during a late night drive. As arrangements get underway for Fred’s funeral, Shula and her cousins begin to uncover secrets lying dormant at the heart of their family.
