The affecting story of real life couple Richard and Mildred Loving (left and below), whose interracial relationship forced them to cross the state line in order to marry in the late 1950s. They then defied anti-miscegenation laws by moving back to their home State as man and wife.
Smitten with his pregnant girlfriend but debarred from marrying in their home state of Virginia by it’s Racial Integrity Act of 1924, Richard and Mildred travel to Washington DC to tie the knot.
The couple plan their lives together, hoping to reside peacefully in their self-built home in Virginia, yet these hopes are threatened when their union is aggressively opposed by the State.
An understated dramatisation of the Loving family’s story and their legal challenge to win the right to return ‘home’, which changed US law, with moving performances from Edgerton and Negga.
