Nocturnal Animals (2016 USA), Cert. 15
Tuesday 3 January 2017 at 7:30 pm - 9:35 pm
Director: Tom Ford
Stars: Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon, Aaron Taylor-Johnson
At a professional and personal low point, art gallery owner Susan (Adams) receives – out of the blue – a manuscript from her novelist ex-husband (Gyllenhaal), who she hasn’t seen in years.
Once a naïve romantic, Edward has now produced a vivid, shocking thriller.
Captivated, Susan, in a film-within-a-film visualises Edward’s tale of a family man (also played by Gyllenhaal) driven to violent revenge and is drawn into a re-evaluation of her life as past, present and fiction become entangled.
She finds herself drawn into a re-evaluation of her life and relationships as past, present and Edward’s fiction become entangled.
Directing a superb ensemble cast, Ford delivers not just the style of A Single Man but also gripping action and savage wit.
The Telegraph’s Review can be read here. Unusually, for a review in the internet age, while there are stills there is no link to a trailer so….
