However, her research brings to light a family secret: a previous owner of her husband’s family home in Paris was a Jewish family, dispossessed and deported 60 over years ago.

She resolves to find out what happened to the former occupants, including their daughter Sarah.

Her journey forces her to discover more about her husband’s family, France and herself.

As the film narrative develops it presents Julia’s 21st Century investigation and Sarah’s 1942 trauma in parallel, with Mayance exceptional as the young Sarah.
