Tuesday 12 September 2017 at 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Our Monthly 11.00am Babes in Arms screening
Bringing a baby is not compulsory but we cannot guarantee a quiet auditorium during this screening!
Intending patrons should note that the lights will not be fully dimmed during the screening and that people may need to move around.
This Month we present:
My cousin rachel (2017, UK/USA), Cert. 12A
Director: Roger Michell
Stars: Sam Claflin, Rachel Weisz, Holliday Grainger, Iain Glen
A fine British cast lead this adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s 1951 tale of a young man plotting revenge against his mysterious, beautiful cousin.
Du Maurier’s books were already popular with Hollywood (‘Rebecca’, ‘Jamaica Inn’, ‘Frenchman’s Creek’) and ‘My Cousin Rachel’ was moved to the big screen almost as soon as it was published, in 1952, with Olivia de Havilland and Richard Burton in the lead roles.
Phillip (Claflin) has been orphaned at an early age, with his older cousin Ambrose becoming his guardian. He suspects Ambrose’s wife Rachel (eponymously played by Rachel Weisz) of poisoning Ambrose and when the widow turns up at the Cornish family home he is deeply suspicious.
However, he quickly falls under her spell. But if his suspicions were right, does the same fate await him?
As well as a more modern sensibility from director and screenwriter Michell (Notting Hill, Enduring Love, Le Weekend), this gripping new production also features gorgeous Devon and Florence locations.
Here is a link to (one of the many) recent reviews in the The Guardian, which includes a link to the trailer. We are also linking to an earlier article in The Telegraph highlighting the beneficial side effect of having your property used as a film location.
