Set in a small Irish town during December 1985, Small Things Like These follows Bill Furlong (Cillian Murphy), a coal merchant and devoted father, who begins to notice disturbing truths about the local convent. As he delivers coal, Bill becomes increasingly aware of the cruel treatment of unmarried mothers and their babies within the convent’s walls. What troubles him further is the town’s collective silence, as the community turns a blind eye to the institution’s practices. Bill is torn between the safety of keeping quiet and the moral imperative to act. As he wrestles with his conscience, he faces a decision that could not only change his life, but challenge the complicity of an entire town.

The 2.30pm screening will be followed by an informal discussion with the Croydon u3a group. All are welcome to attend.
