Santosh, the widow of a policeman killed during a riot while on duty, is offered the post of policewoman, which will preserve her late husband’s pay and benefits, but soon finds that the police service is beset by misogyny, Islamophobia and caste prejudice. She is befriended by a more senior female officer, but as they look into the murder of a Dalit girl, Santosh worries about the integrity of the investigation. With superb performances from its two female leads, this is “a tough, sinewy, satisfying film” (The Guardian).
