Holocaust Memorial Day Screening (27 Jan). New York City in the 1890s. Yankel emigrates to America from Eastern Europe and soon assimilates, changes his name to Jake and takes a mistress. His wife, Gitl, and their young son arrive later, but she finds it harder to settle, and tensions between the couple soon arise. “Sumptuously shot in black and white, it’s a loving, funny, and heartbreaking look at the immigrant experience” (IndieWire).
A 35mm presentation in association with The Cinema Museum.
