OUR PATRON
BACK TO :
We’re delighted that acclaimed British actress Joanna Scanlan is Patron of the David Lean Cinema.
Joanna is much more than a supporter of the cinema—she is a familiar face here. Over the years, she has joined us for special screenings, hosted our annual quiz, and helped bring some of the people behind the films we love to Croydon through director and actor Q&As. Her enthusiasm, generosity and genuine love of cinema reflect the spirit of the David Lean Cinema.
Known for her award-winning performances across film, television and theatre, Joanna has always understood the power of independent cinema to surprise, move and inspire us. Her performance in After Love earned her a BAFTA Film Award and a British Independent Film Award, but it is her belief in the shared experience of cinema that makes her such a natural fit as our Patron.
Speaking about her role as Patron of the David Lean Cinema, Joanna said:
“Independent cinema changed the course of my life and continues to do so. Grassroots cinema clubs like David Lean provide a dynamic source of pleasure and enlightenment. The irrepressible force of the movie, as delivered by the DLC’s enthusiastic volunteers, is the weekly highlight of entertainment and culture for so many.”
We’re thrilled to have Joanna alongside us as we continue to bring people together through exceptional cinema, special events and stories worth sharing.
