Beautifully photographed in Nepal, this story of Sir John Hunt’s expedition to conquer the highest mountain in the world concentrates on Nepalese-Indian sherpa Tenzing Norgay, who, with New Zealander Edmund Hillary, reached the summit of Everest in May 1953. We learn how he met Everest pioneer George Mallory when a boy, his exile in India following serious illness, and how he realises his dreams of becoming more than just a sherpa. A thoughtful performance from Chinese actor Phuntsok and unobtrusive support from Hiddleston make this a very successful look at the story of the Everest conquest from a new and interesting perspective.
