A new look for our cinema

Published :

For over 12 years, our cinema has been kept alive by people who care about film and about Croydon. Thousands of volunteer hours and countless screenings have made us what we are today: an independent, community-led cinema where people come together to discover great films.

This week, we have started to introduce a new look as well as a new website for our cinema.

Our cinema has grown and evolved since it reopened in 2014. So has Croydon and so has the way people discover films and decide where to spend their time. We wanted to make it easier for people to find out what’s on, book a film and discover everything the cinema has to offer.

We hope our new website does just that, with clearer information, easier ways to explore our programme and a more accessible experience across desktop and mobile.

Alongside it, we’ve developed a new look to give our cinema a clearer and more consistent presence wherever you encounter us – from our monthly programme and posters to our website and social media, and even the T-shirts our volunteers wear.

The new logo takes its inspiration from something at the centre of every visit to our cinema: our screen. Its two frames reflect the proportions of the screen itself and a familiar cinema film format, creating a simple and distinctive mark rooted in the experience of watching a film here.

And while our look is changing, our connection to the famous film director Sir David Lean remains an important part of our story. From his beginnings in Croydon, Lean went on to create films that transported audiences to different countries, periods, lives and ways of seeing the world. That idea helped inspire a simple thought at the heart of our new identity:

See the world. One film at a time.

Most importantly, none of this changes who we are. We’re still run by volunteers, still proudly independent and still passionate about bringing an eclectic programme of films to Croydon.

We hope our new website and clearer, more accessible communications will make it easier for existing audiences to keep enjoying our cinema – and for people who haven’t discovered us yet to find their way through our doors.
