Great War survivor Tom (Fassbender) keeps a lighthouse off the shore of Australia with his wife Isabel (Vikander). But the couple meet a woman (Weisz) on the mainland who has lost her husband and child in circumstances that match their fortuitous find.

It seems the child’s biological mother is not dead, and they are forced to deal with the consequences of their decision to keep the baby.

Cianfrance (Blue Valentine) and his Academy Award winning cast have crafted a heartrending period drama.
