 Director: Victor Erice

Victor Erice’s re-released 1983 classic has been cited as a great inspiration to the Spanish director best known to UK audiences, Pedro Almodovar (whose latest film – Julieta – was shown at David Lean in September).

Growing up outside a small town in northern Spain, 15-year-old Estrella (Bollaín) looks back to her experiences at a younger age (Aranguren) as she tries to understand her family’s history, including their sudden move away from Seville, and uncover the secret life of her affectionate yet mysterious father Agustín (Antonutti).

This intriguing drama set in the 1950s by the director of The Spirit of the Beehive, features remarkable performances and luminous cinematography.
