Monthly 11.00 am Babes in Arms screening
Bringing a baby is not compulsory, but we cannot guarantee a quiet auditorium! Lights will not be fully dimmed, sound will be lower than usual and people may need to move around. When available, subtitles will be shown. The babes in arms may be up to one year old.
Director: Jesse Peretz
Stars: Rose Byrne, Ethan Hawke, Chris O’Dowd
Bridesmaids star Byrne is on top form as Annie, whose boyfriend Duncan (O’Dowd) is devoted to rock star Tucker Crowe (Hawke). After Annie pans his music online, Tucker gets in touch with her and a deep correspondence develops… Caught between these two far-from-perfect men, Annie must decide what’s most important to her. Driven by a fine original soundtrack, this adaptation of Nick Hornby’s novel is “comic, heartfelt and as smart as they come” (Los Angeles Times).
The programme will include our current BRIT School Showcase film Century Eyes, a music video directed by Simi Akande.

Director: Paul Schrader
Stars: Ethan Hawke, Amanda Seyfried, Cedric Kyles
Reverend Ernst Toller (a great performance by Hawke) is the pastor of a small parish church in New York. Once a stop on the Underground Railroad, it is now a tourist attraction with a dwindling congregation, eclipsed by a modern church nearby. When pregnant parishioner Mary (Seyfried) asks Toller to counsel her radical environmentalist husband, the clergyman finds himself grappling with his own tormented past and equally despairing future – until he finds redemption. ‘This mesmerising drama of a pastor’s crisis of faith feels like the movie Schrader was put on this planet to make’ (Washington Post).
