This African-American update to the L. Frank Baum children’s classic stars Diana Ross as Dorothy, a young teacher still living with her aunt and uncle who is whisked away to Oz during a Thanksgiving Day snowstorm, there to meet The Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion and Michael Jackson’s Scarecrow, along with Lena Horne’s Glinda the Good Witch and Richard Pryor as The Wiz himself.
Produced by Universal and Motown Records, the musical numbers are arranged by the late Quincy Jones, who would go on to produce Jackson’s classic albums.
