When Iman is promoted as an investigator in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Court, wife Najmeh warns their two daughters of the need to be “irreproachable”. But one has a friend drawn to activism, and when Iman’s gun goes missing, the film evolves into a suspense thriller, while reflecting on morality, loyalty and the impact of political unrest on private lives. It was secretly shot in Iran by brave director Mohammad Rasoulof, who subsequently fled abroad, having been sentenced to eight years in prison.
